Skylarks, BPS and yet more sunshine…

Mute swans are still grazing oilseed rape on the coast but it is great to hear the skylarks getting into full voice on the rougher grasslands and stubbles.  New lambs and calves are now regular occurrences on my drive around north Northumberland.

Checking Entry Level (ELS) field corners and 6m margins produce a vocal pair of grey partridge.  Curlew, lapwing and oystercatchers are now starting to appear on their inland rushy pastures.  On the way home I called on another client and got further work signed off.  The farmer said that many of his small upland streams are starting to run dry!
